Orangutans are great apes that are native to Indonesia, and Malaysia. They are also found in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Generally solitary primates, they spend most of their time in trees, hence their powerful arms to transport them through the trees.
Orangutans have distinctive red hair and are born with the ability to reason and think. They share 97% of their DNA with humans.
 
Orangutans are one of the most critically endangered of the great apes, due to poaching and habitat loss from deforestation and the palm oil plantations that are devastating Indonesia.
